We are once again supporting our largest national philanthropy, by raising money for the Sigma Kappa Foundation which will be allocated for Alzheimer's Research.  It will be a fabulous time, for a fabulous cause!

In spring of 2014, Sigma Kappa committed to raising the lead gift of $1 million to the Alzheimer’s Association’s Women’s Research Initiative within 5 years.  At the 2014 Convention, Carolyn Tieger, Epsilon Epsilon, announced a challenge gift – if Sigma Kappa raised $500,000 by 2016 Convention, she would match it dollar for dollar allowing us to fulfill the commitment in two years instead of five. This challenge prompted National Council to issue the Alumnae Challenge: for each Alumnae chapter to raise at least $1,000 for this campaign. 

Here in Houston, we took this challenge to heart, and spurred on by the catch phrase “everything is bigger in Texas” we decided to put together an event to celebrate our online fundraising efforts, and maybe even add to the amount we had raised.  And so the Love Never Forgets event was born.  The first year we raised over $15,000.

Sigma Kappa presented the Alzheimer’s Association with the $1 million lead gift for the Women’s Alzheimer’s Research Initiative at the 87th national convention held in Chicago in July 2016.  

As a result of all our hard work, Houston Alumnae Chapter won the Gerontology Service Award from the Sigma Kappa Foundation for the development of an outstanding community philanthropy project that reflects Sigma Kappa’s interest in Alzheimer’s disease and gerontology. ​

By now you have probably heard that the Sigma Kappa Foundation has pledge a $1 million donation to the Alzheimer's Association. The only way to achieve this promise is with the help of all Sigma Kappa's. The Houston Alumnae chapter wants play a large role in this pledge and is launching the LOVE NEVER FORGETS challenge to raise $100,000 by March 16, 2016 for Alzheimer’s Research to find a cure for this dread disease.

We ask that you make a donation of $50-100 or more to this amazing cause and reach out to friends and family for support as well. How many times a year to you receive requests to support your friends, neighbors, family, coworkers and acquaintances in all of your circle of friendships to support and make a donation to their cause? We ask you to think back throughout your network and reach out to all of these contacts to support the Houston Alumnae of Sigma Kappa Challenge, “Love Never Forgets.” Refer to the December newsletter for a sample email you can send to your friends and family to request their support.
